The invention relates to the finishing of rolled wire and can be employed on a coil collector for rolled wire which is supplied in spread-out wire turns on a continuously moving conveyor belt arranged on the entry side of the collector. The aim and objective is a substantial reduction in the cropping losses involved in the cropping of rolled-wire ends in the collector by creating a certain spacing between falling turns in the collector at very high rolling speeds to allow reliable insertion of the holding fingers, especially at the tip of the roll wire and when splitting coils. This is achieved by means of a stopper device which consists of a hook-shaped pivoting lever lying on the coil collector below a conveyor and having a hook pointing towards the conveyor and of a pressure piece situated above the conveyor, the two being arranged in such a way relative to one another that the hook of the pivoting lever in the raised position and the pressure piece overlap just above the conveyor by the thickness of at least one wire of a wire turn.
