Polymerising isobutylene
Isobutylene polymers (PIB) with a mol. wt. of at most 150,000 are produced in a tubular reactor by (i) introducing isobutylene at 0-70 deg. C into the reaction zone at an angle of 30-120 deg. to the bulk of the reaction stream; (ii) introducing an acid catalyst at two points in the reaction zone, at...

Zusammenfassung: | Isobutylene polymers (PIB) with a mol. wt. of at most 150,000 are produced in a tubular reactor by (i) introducing isobutylene at 0-70 deg. C into the reaction zone at an angle of 30-120 deg. to the bulk of the reaction stream; (ii) introducing an acid catalyst at two points in the reaction zone, at an angle of 30-15 m/s, 0-60 deg. C, 1-5 atmos. pressure and polymerising. Pref. the catalyst is maintained at 0-90 deg. C and is introduced at a rate resulting in a concn. of 0.01-0.5 wt.%. PIB, (a) with a mol. wt. of 300-1000, are produced at 40-60 deg. C; (b) with a mol. wt. of 1100-20,000 are produced at 10-30 deg. C and (c) with a mol. wt. of 20,000-15,000 are produced at 0-10 deg.
