Transverse sealing device for bag forming, filling and sealing machines with two welding or sealing jaw supports arranged on cranks, parallel guides for the jaw supports and a control element which acts on the path of motion of the jaw supports. It is intended to improve the quality of the welding or sealing seam. The object of the invention is to cause the welding jaws to enter the packing means path planes at a steep angle and to optimise the effective time and the effective pressure during the welding process. The object is achieved by means of a control element, which is designed as crank slides assigned to both sides of the welding or sealing jaw supports. The crank slides are designed in this case as crank arms which are radially movable in the crank discs of the crank shafts and which can be displaced by means of cam discs which are arranged centrally in the axes of rotation of the crank shafts and with whose cam paths cam rollers arranged on the crank arms engage.
