Zusammenfassung: | The inner wall of a metal container is coated with a thixotropic coating applied as a thin layer over defective surfaces on the inner wall. The thixotropic material is a vinyl, e.g. PVC, organosol with ketone solvents which swell the PVC, or silica of surface area 200 sq.m/g. The thixotropic agent is used at 5-20 wt.% of the coating. The coating is applied at 5 mg/sq. inch, e.g. as a side seam stripe. Coating metal food cans having a side seam e.g. a welded lap joint, which has an internal metal edge. The coating adheres as a gel to the interior surfaces and remains as a gel at a curing temp. of over 250 deg.F. The can is protected from corrosion and the food from contamination. |
