Zusammenfassung:A reducible rare earth metal chloride (sic) and magnesium are charged in a reactor and the reactor is tightly sealed with a cover and an easy melting plug. The reactor is introduced into a heating furnace. After the redn. step, a block of the reaction prod. is subjected to vacuum smelting to removed residual magnesium and magnesium chloride. For this purpose, a condenser is connected with the reactor and the easy melting plug is removed. The assembly is placed in a vacuum furnace to act as a vacuum separator. Process is used for producing titanium metal from titanium tetrachloride.
