Zusammenfassung: | Molten metal is poured from a spout (16) into a starter block (22) and is contained by electromagnetic pressure induced by an inductor (11). The electrical resistivity of the bottom block at ambient temperature is closely matched to that of the metal at a temperature within the range 0 DEG to 100 DEG F below the solidus temperature of the metal, the two resistivities preferably being in a ratio of less than 1:2. The bottom block has a deeply hollowed out central section to improve start up conditions. The metal is cooled by water fed to its surface from a manifold 12. |
