The improvement comprises adding an Fe-group metal and/or cpd. and/or alloy to the HCl soln. before electrolysis in an amt. corresp. to >=0.006 g-ion/l. (I) is useful as a solvent and for vinyl chloride prodn. The process gives high yields (e.g. 80-95% based on ethylene and 85-98% current efficiency) of (I) with high purity (e.g. >95%) using high anodic current densities. |
