Zusammenfassung:Electroslag remelting plant for mfr. of exceptionally heavy metal ingot, using consumable electrodes and a chilled mould which is driven up and down. The mould has a wide upper zone (I) for the slag bath, and a lower zone (II) forming the actual mould. The mould base is formed by a chilled insert, which has a height larger than the height of lower zone (II). At the start of melting, the insert is partly located in zone (II), but the mould can be lowered so that top of zone (II) is below the top of the insert. Used for mfg. ingots with a wt. 150-200 tonnes. The length of the electron holder reels required is reduced by 50% cf prior plants, and power consumption is lower.
