Zusammenfassung:The locking device holds open the contact bridge of a switch after the switch has been operated eg in response to a short circuit. It prevents it returning to the closed position. The device works even with the fastest of switches. The contact bridge carries ratchet hooks that engage ledges after the bridge has moved a given distance on opening. The hooks are at the ends of arms (2) attached to the bridge (1) and each side of a movable centre column (3) passing through the bridge and the fixed contact piece. The hooks engage ledges on the sides of this column. The locks is released by raising the column so that fixed fingers (4) disengage the hooks from the ledges.
