The concn. of Pd is pref. 1x10-6 to 0.5 gm atom/litre. and the polyacid concn. is pref. 1x10-3 to 1 gm. mol/l. The catalyst is partic. used for prepg. acetaldehyde, acetic acid, acetonic and methyl ethyl ketone. Previous processes using Cu chloride as reversible oxidant have had the disadvantage of chloride ions giving bath corrosion problems and a proportion of chlorinated products.
