Zusammenfassung:	The present invention provides a system and method for detecting earth fault and thereby protecting field winding of a synchronous machine as well as secondary winding of an excitation transformer against earth fault. When earth fault is detected, an earth fault protection circuitry activates at least one of an alarm unit or an interrupt unit depending upon the value of the calculated earth resistance and thereby protects the system against earth fault.
