A method for repeatedly accessing a face of a silage clamp, and a clamping element for use in the method

An apparatus for clamping a silage cover or covers on a silage pit having a clamping bar (20), clamping plate (19) and carrier members (24) attached to a base plate (25) by means of a pivot coupling (27) and pivot pin (30) which allows the clamping bar (20) to be moved either towards or away from the clamping plate (19). A tensioning mechanism comprised of a threading bar (33), pivot pin (38) pivot axis (40) threaded collar (35). A user places the rolled silage cover or covers between the clamping bar (20) and the clamping plate (19). Then by turning the threaded collar (35) on the threaded bar (33) the threaded collar (35) acts on the carrier members (24) causing the silage cover or covers to be clamped between the clamping bar (20) and the clamping plate (19). To remove the cover or covers from the clamp, the threaded collar (35) is turned in the opposite direction to before allowing the clamping bar (20) to be moved away from the clamping plate (19) thus removing the clamping force from the covers.
