Zusammenfassung:Carboxyl gps. of rosins are partially or completely esterified into prods. of low acid values at 150-200 deg.C with xylene-formaldehyde resins contg. higher than 40% ester linkage distributions. Rosin carboxy gp. to resin ester link molar ratio is: 0.1-2:1. Rosins are also esterified at 150-200 deg.C with xylene-formaldehyde resins contg. acetal-link distributions greater than 50%, at a rosin to resin wt. ratio of 0.1-1.5; and are hydroxy methylated simultaneously. Conversely rosin is esterified and hydroxy methylated with xylene-formaldehyde resin contg. a combined ester+acetal linkage distribution of over 90%.
