Zusammenfassung:Red mud is dissolved in ferric sulfate, aluminum sulfate or their hydrates, or optionally a portion of red mud is dissolved in 1-100% (preferably, 20-30%) sulfuric acid. The insoluble content in the solution is filtered. The solution is then crystallized and heat-treated at 50-1000[deg]C (preferably, 100-200[deg]C) in presence of mixture of ferric sulfate and aluminum sulfate as sulfating agent for 0.1-10 hours. Then, sodium content is extracted from the obtained reaction mixture by leaching with water.
