PROCESS FOR PREPARING ALKYL- AND ALKOXY-ALKYL-BENZENE DERIVATIVES

Alkyl and alkoxyalkyl substituted benzenes having the formula in which R is C1-C5 alkyl, C1-C4 alkoxy, methylenedioxy or hydrogen and R min is C2-C20 alkyl or C2-C20 alkoxyalkyl are prepared from corresponding benzyl halides by a three-step process of cyanation, alkylation, and decyanation.
