Zusammenfassung:	1493950 1,8-Naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid derivatives CHINOIN GYOGYSZER-ES VEGYESZETI TERMEKEK GYARA RT 24 Dec 1974 [29 Dec 1973] 55877/74 Heading C2C A process for the preparation of 1-alkyl-7- methyl - 4 - oxo - 1,4 - dihydro - 1,8 - naphthyridine-3-carboxlic acids of the general formula comprises hydrolysing a compound of the formula wherein the N-alkyl group has from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, Y is a tertiary nitrogen-containing aromatic, heterocyclic ring attached through the nitrogen atom, or a trialkylamino group, and Z is an anion. The hydrolysis is preferably carried out in the presence of an ammonium, alkali metal- or alkaline-earth metal hydroxide or carbonate or an organic amine, at a temperature of from 20 to 150 C. The starting materials are suitably prepared by the method of Specification 1,493,947.
