Zusammenfassung:1-(Pyridinyl)2[di(lower)alkyl) amino]ethylenyl lower-alkyl ketones are used in the preparation of pyridinones having cardiotonic properties. These intermediates are prepared by reacting (pyridinyl) methyl lower-alkyl ketones with di-(lower-alkyl) formamide di-(lower-alkyl acetal. The compounds have the formula:- R3R4N-CH=C(PY)-CO-R, R3, R4 and R being C1-6 alkyl and PY being pyridinyl optionally substituted by one or two C1-6 alkyl groups.
