SCHISTOSOMICIDAL COMPOSITION COMPRISING OXAMNIQUINE AND PRAZIQUANTEL

Schistosomicidal compositions containing a compound of the formula:- wherein R and R each hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl, hydroxy-C1-C4 alkyl, or C3-C6 cycloalkyl; R is nitro, cyano, fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine, and R is methyl or hydroxymethyl; or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof; and a compound of the formula:- wherein R is cyclohexyl, 3-cyclohexenyl, 4-pyridyl, phenyl, 2-fluorophenyl or 4-aminophenyl, with or without a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier. Preferably, compound (I) is oxamniquine and compound (II) praziquantel. The compositions are unexpectedly active due to synergism. Also described are methods of treating Schistosomiasis by the concomitant administration of compounds (I) and (II).
