SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR IMPLEMENTING AN EXCEPTION TO A PARKING RESTRICTION

The present invention relates to methods and systems for implementing, indicating and enforcing an exception to a parking restriction, such as a loading bay. The present invention enables a loading bay to be defined by one or more coordinates without necessarily indicating the location of the loading bay by marking it on the road, thereby reducing the likelihood of other motorists from stopping in the loading bay. An apparatus for indicating a loading bay to a vehicle includes means for receiving and displaying a location of a loading bay and the position of the vehicle. An apparatus for enforcing a loading bay includes means for monitoring an area including the loading bay, means for detecting a vehicle in the monitored area, determining whether a detected vehicle is positioned within the loading bay, and whether the detected vehicle has permission to park in the loading bay. The means for determining whether a vehicle is position within the loading bay may be a display showing the loading bay as a graphic overlay on a CCTV image of the monitored area.
