Substd. phenyl-4-thiazole derivs. of formula (I) and their salts are new. R1 = H , 1-5C alkyl, 3-8C cycloalkyl, ar(1-5C)alkyl, (1-3C alkoxy)carbonyl1-3C alkyl or (1-3C alkoxycarbonylaryl)1-3C alkyl, carboxy(1-3C alkyl) or carboxyaryl (1-3C alkyl); A = either (i) ethylene; or (ii) methylene (opt. mono- or di-substd. by pyridyl, 1-5C alkyl, (1-5C alkoxy)carbonyl, 1-5Calkoxycarbonyl1-5Calkyl, carboxy1-5Calkyl, or Ph or benzyl (both opt. ring substd. by 1-5C alkyl, 1-5C alkoxy, OH, halo or CF3); R = H, 1-5C alkyl, aryl or ar(1-5C alkyl) (both opt. ring substd. by OH, 1-3C alkoxy, 1-3C alkanoyloxy, halo, CF3 or 1-5C alkyl); Y = H, COOR2 or COR3; R2 = 1-5C alkyl or aryl or ar(1-5C alkyl) (both opt. ring substd by 1-5C alkyl); R3 = 1-5C alkyl; Also claimed are intermediates of formula (V) and their salts.
