A device for printing or applying labels on plastic straws

A device for printing on or applying labels to plastic straws consists of two parallel revolving discs 11 and 12 on the edges of which there are perpendicular shafts 18 which move up and down as the discs revolve. The perpendicular shafts 18 have wheels 20 at their lower ends which, following the changes in height of the path 21, cause the shafts 18 to move up and down. The apparatus includes a mechanism 27 which frees a straw which falls and is positioned around the shaft 18 as this passes in front of the mechanism. A revolving cylinder 26 comes into contact with the straw and forces it to turn around the shaft 18. In the case of printing, the cylinder 26 is replaced by a printing drum which also rotates, printing on the straw. In the case of applying labels, the cylinder 26 is covered with a soft material (e.g. rubber) so that when it revolves it exerts pressure on the label and the straw to bring about adhesion.
