Essence A method comprises reduction of nitrate ions in an acid medium in the presence of an activated catalyst, which catalyst comprises carrier particles containing palladium and platinum, where the relative concentration of the palladium and the platinum in each metal particle are substantially the same and their ratio is between 7:3 and 9,9:0,1 and platinum concentration has a standard deviation of less than 4% absolute, preferable less than 3%.The carrier particles are graphite, silica and carbon and particle size of the carrier is between 0,1m and 50 m. 3.
