A turbine or compressor has a rotor disc 10 in which are mounted the root portions 11 of angularly spaced rotor blades 12, each rotor blade having a platform 14 radially outwardly of and connected to the respective root portion by a radially extending shank 15, and a plurality of flexible channel-shaped members 16 which in operation engage both the circumference of the rotor disc 10 and the radially inner surface 17 of each platform, the flexible members damping the amplitude of vibration of the rotor blades which occurs in operation. The damping members 16 are of sheet metal and are urged centrifugally into engagement with surfaces 17 of adjacent platforms 14.
