In a mine roof support assembly wherein supports 14, Fig. 3, each comprising a prop 15 and a roof bar 16 are advanced relatively to each other by means not shown, a shield, which may comprise a plate suspended from a rod 19, is provided between each pair of supports 14 to prevent falling roof material coming between the supports, the shield having a sliding connection with each roof bar to accommodate the advancing movements. The rod 19 shown slidably engages single chain links hanging in eyebolts 17 on the bars 16. In a modification the shield, Fig. 1, comprises bars 12 welded to chains 11 slidably suspended on rods 7 carried by the roof bars 5. The supports may be advanced by a fluid-pressure jack connected between them, or between the supports and a conveyer.
