A framework for rail vehicle bodies, comprises parallel frames 10, 16 interconnected by elements 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, additional floor strengthening elements 11 being provided between the frames, all the members of the framework being tubular and of a plastics material. The elements 6, 7, 8 are connected to the frames by L-shaped brackets as are elements 1, 2 to elements 11; the standards 10 of the frames have flanges 13, Fig. 8, for connection to elements 1, 2 and a flange 14, Fig. 7, is connected to standards 10 and elements 1 for connection to a vehicle frame; and brackets 15 connect standards 10 to elements 4, Fig. 10.
