Polyalkyl and/or polyaryl siloxanes

A composition comprising a mixture of compounds of the general formula (A) wherein each R11 is a lower alkyl, phenyl, vinyl or allyl radical, each Z1 is a radical derived from a compound of the generic formula Z1OH, the compound being selected from lower aliphatic monohydric alcohols and addition compounds thereof with ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide, a1 has a value of from 0.5 to 100 and b1 has a value of from 2 to 50, at least one Z1 radical per molecule being a R1O(CnH2nO)m radical in which R1 is a lower alkyl, phenyl or alkylphenyl radical, n is 2 or 3 and m is a number, can be made by reacting organosilicon polymers containing halogen and silyl sulphone groups, as described in Specification 931,939, with the desired organic hydroxyl compound, preferably with subsequent neutralisation of the liberated acid. In examples an organo-silicon polymer containing chlorine and sulphate groups was reacted with (1, 2, 5 to 9, 12, 13 and 14) a polyoxyalkylene monobutylether, (3, 4, 11) the corresponding methyl ether, and (10) the corresponding phenylether. Uses: as intermediates in the production of resin coatings and elastomers; as foam stabilizers in polyurethane foams; brake and hydraulic fluids; heat-transfer media; paints and varnishes; and hydrophobic agents for fabrics, cements and ceramics.
