Zusammenfassung: | The solubility of dialdehyde starch in water is improved by treating it at room temperature with dilute alkali, which preferably has a strength of 0.01 N to 0.1 N. In examples, dialdehyde starch with an aldehyde content 90% of the theoretical maximum was shaken for 1 hour at room temperature with 0.0125 N or 0.025 N NaOH and the product filtered, washed and dried by mixing with acetone. The treated aldehyde starch when added in an amount of 0.0033 grams to 1 gram of gelatin raises the melting point of the gelatin from 56 to 62 DEG C. and is useful for coatings and emulsions for black- andwhite and colour photography. Specification 928,591 is referred to. |
