Zusammenfassung: | 962,965. Coating apparatus. LODDING ENGINEERING CORPORATION. Sept. 17, 1962, No. 35309/62. Heading B2B. [Also in Divisions D1 and D2] A liquid applicator for applying liquid to the surface of a rotating roll of papermaking or like machinery or e.g. to a web of paper thereon, comprises a base 10 and connected rear and end walls 16, 20 the base 10 having a free forward edge 12 and terminating in a trough 14 at its rear end. A flexible impervious apron 70 overlies the base 10 and extends beyond the forward edge 12 to contact the roll 48 to which liquid is to be applied. The apron is turned up at its lateral edges on to the end walls 20 and is held down on to the base 10 by a plate 78 and a dam bar 64 each of which is located on upstanding pins 62. The dam bar forms the rear wall and fixes the depth of the pond of liquid held in the applicator the sides of the pond being defined by adjustable deckles 80 the base by the plate 78 and apron 70 and the front by a roll 48 itself. A water inlet pipe 22 located on the rear wall 16 discharges through a plurality of pinch-type valves 24 into the pond area and rapid discharge of the pond liquid may be effected by manual lifting of the dam bar allowing the water to escape into the trough 14 and discharge outlets 25. Special yoke-type clamps 104 mounted on the flange 18 of the rear wall 16 secure the deckles 80 in any desired position. The unit is provided with means for positional adjustment towards or away from the roll 48 and for pivotal adjustment whereby the depth of the liquid at the tip of the apron may be adjusted. Each deckle comprises a rectangular block 82, a side plate 84 and a vertically adjustable, generally triangular forward part 90 which has attached thereto a shaped piece of sealing felt 98 adapted to contact the roll 48. Vertical adjustment of the part 90 may be required to allow for pivotal adjustment of the entire liquid applicator. |
