A process for the production of articles of polyurethane foam comprises the steps of allowing the foam F to form in a thin metal shell A which is contained in and conforms to the shape of a mould B and subsequently transferring the said metal shell and the foam therein to a heated zone. The inner surface of the shell which may be of aluminium may be coated with a release agent e.g. a silicone fluid, paraffin wax, petroleum jelly or polytetrafluoroethylene.
