[Also in Division H4] In the apparatus shown in Fig. 1 a scintillation counter or other suitable deflector 1 is mounted on a trolley 4 and is movable along arms 5 of a cantilever device by means of a reversible electric motor and at each end of the arm operates one of two switches 7 to cause the device to be moved forward in steps along guide rails 13, 14. The radio-active pulses measured by the counter are amplified and recorded on a counting device 8 and are also fed to a part 10 of another recording device mounted on the trolley where they are turned into light pulses which are projected on to a roll film 11. Two additional projectors 15 are fixed to the trolley and project images of diaphragms therein on to the object to be scanned thereby enabling the distance between the object and the counter or detector to be determined.
