Zusammenfassung:	Acrylonitrile or mixtures thereof with up to 20% of a comonomer are polymerized in solution in dimethyl sulphone, methyl ethyl sulphone or bis-cyanoethyl sulphone, said sulphones being solvents for the polymers produced. The solvent may contain a small amount of water. Comonomers specified are styrene, methyl acrylate, methallyl sulphonic acid, itaconic acid, vinyl acetate and vinyl pyridine. Polymerization may be initiated by an azo compound, e.g. azo-bis-isobutyronitrile. The resulting polymer solutions may be used for spinning fibres.
