Zusammenfassung: | Animal feed in the form of flakes is produced by compacting a mixture comprising whole cereal grains and molasses at a pressure at least sufficient to rupture the grain pericarps. The mixture may be heated in the presence of water, e.g. steam-heated to 70-90 DEG C., before the compacting. Minerals, vitamins and antibiotics may be incorporated. Passage of the mixture between oppositely-rotating rollers with a pressure between the rollers of at least 5000 lb. per inch of roll width, and a gap of at most 0.01 inch between the rollers, is suitable. Dairy cattle flake formulations are of (i) molasses, barley, maize, wheat, bran, fish meal, oil-extracted soya, groundnut and cottonseed cakes, sodium chloride, limestone and spice, (ii) molasses, barley, wheat, maize, oil-extracted soya, groundnut and cottonseed cakes and a mineral mixture of sodium chloride, dicalcium phosphate, limestone, and cobalt, copper, manganese and ferrous sulphates. |
