Electrical conductor joints

Two coaxial cables 1, 2 having inner conductors 3, 4 and outer conductors 8, 9 separated by dielectric spaces 6, 7, are joined by means of a threaded conducting ferrule 5 which is screwed on to threads 10, 11 on the inner conductors 3, 4. Conductor 3 is threaded 10 to the length of the ferrule 5, while conductor 4 is threaded 11 to half this length. A dielectric spacer 14 is pressed on to the ferrule 5 which is then screwed on to the thread 10 of the conductor 3. Conductor 4 is then aligned with conductor 3 and the ferrule is screwed from conductor 3 on to conductor 4 until the whole of the thread 11 is covered by the ferrule. The joint is then heated and solder is introduced via slots 13 in the ferrule 5. The joint is then completed by assembling a known type of outer conductor joint 15.
