Beschreibung
Zusammenfassung:874,390. Arc welding electrodes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 13, 1957 [March 22, 1957 (2)], Nos. 35760/56 and 9436/57. Class 39(3). [Also in Group XXII] An arc welding device comprises a non- consumable liquid-cooled hollow electrode embraced by a split sleeve 9 fitting tightly within a brass sleeve 7 secured to an insulating handle 1 to the underside of which is fastened a copper shield 21 with an insulating sleeve 25, e.g. of silica, spaced from and coaxial with the 'electrode, the space between the electrode and the sleeve being supplied with inert gas by way of a pipe 31. A former 37 and a winding 39 constitute a solenoid for producing a magnetic field to prevent wandering of the arc. The electrode comprises a tip 49, e.g. of copper, brazed to a bent copper tube 50 the legs of which fit over short lengths of tube 51 which are inserted in one end of bores 52, 52 in a brass member 53. In recesses at the other end of the bores are seated respectively a copper tube 54 leading to a connection 55 for current and coolant input and a tube 56 for coolant outflow, the tubes 54 and 56 passing through apertures in the wall of a copper pipe 57 brazed to the member 53. A cooling pipe 35 is coiled 'about the shield 21.
