Zusammenfassung: | 864,013. Stuffing-boxes. BROWN FINTUBE CO. April 14,1958, No. 11770/58. Class 122 (5). [Also in Group XXVIII] A rubber-like sealing-ring 28, Fig. 1, is radially expanded by a gland nut 29 into sealing engagement with concentric tubes 10, 11, the side of the ring away from the gland nut being provided with means 38, Figs. 2, 3, forming fluid passages permitting pressure fluid from the space 14 to exert pressure over the whole of said side of the ring. The sealing-ring 28, which is substantially round in cross-section and has a serrated flange 38 extending axially is engaged in a groove 27, formed between a bushing 20 fixed to the inner tube and the end face of a nut 29, which is in threaded engagement with the bushing. After radial expansion of sealing-ring 28, the nut 29 may be locked by a screw 36 and fluid-pressure can, because of the serrations, be applied to the entire serrated side of the sealing-ring 28 to increase the sealing pressure. The sealing-rings may have serrations of rectangular or U-shape, formed in the high-pressure face. In a further embodiment, Fig. 12, the groove may be formed in the inner surface of an extension 54 of the shell tube 10, the ring 63 being radially expanded by a nut 59. Specification 707,474 is referred to. |
