Zusammenfassung:840,988. Foam towers. PYRENE CO. Ltd. Sept. 2, 1958 [Sept. 3, 1957], No. 27793/57. Class 47. An apparatus for use in delivering fire-extinguishing foam from a height comprises the combination of a mechanical foam generator 2, Fig. 8, with a telescopic tower 1 that is adapted to receive foam at its lower end and to discharge foam at its upper end, and that has a valve at its upper end which can be operated from the ground, the connection between the generator 2 and the base of the tower comprising not only a pipe leading to the tower but also a pipe branching from this to waste and means for diverting the foam along either pipe. The means for diverting the foam comprise a valve 69, Fig. 7 in the branch 68 leading to the tower and a valve 73 in the branch 72 opening to waste, the valves being mechanically interconnected so that one is open whilst the other is closed. The valve at the upper end of the tower has a lever 42 extending away from the tower to receive a rope 43 whereby the valve can be opened or closed and the tower rotated from the ground, this valve when closed being adapted to receive a thrust from foam introduced into the tower whereby the tower is extended, and when open allowing the foam to be discharged. Each section of the tower carries an internal gland at its upper end to seat against innermost section. One of the sections has a bogie 48 arranged so that its wheels 58 can rest against the wall 57 of a tank &c. into which the foam is to be delivered. For transport purposes the tower is attached to a wheeled chassis 4, Fig. 1, which can be disconnected at 7 and after removal of the wheels 5 can be staked to the ground and used as a support for the tower during and after its erection into the operating position.
