In an expanding-pulley gear having input and output pulleys I, IV, belted to countershaft pulleys II, III, diagonally opposite flanges 51, 41 and 61, 71 of each pair of pulleys are axially fixed, whilst their complementary flanges 5, 4 and 6, 7 are moved together in the same axial direction by levers 14, 23, 24, turned on fixed pivots 22, 25 by a screw 15, and acting on the flanges through double thrust bearings 20 and, if desired, springs. The screw 15 may alternatively act on the lower end of the lever 14. Specification 639,934 is referred to.
