Galvanic anodes are made from a magnesium alloy containing from 0.2 to 2% manganese and up to 1% other metallic materials, the alloy being cooled to a temperature between 450‹ and 350 ‹ C. at a rate of at least 65 C. per minute, in a fluid-cooled mould, removed from the mould and said temperature, and thereafter cooled at a rate either lower or higher than the rate employed in the initial cooling step.
