Viscous material dispenser

Apparatus for dispensing viscous materials comprises a hopper 9 for the material to be dispensed connected by a passageway 21 to the bore 25 of a housing 19 in which slides a movable member 27 housing a piston 29, the bore 25 being connected by a passageway 35 to an outlet 37 having a discharge valve 59. In operation the bore 25 is filled with the material and the movable member 27 slides to close the passageway 21 and in so doing exerts sufficient pressure to return unconfined material to the hopper and exclude air bubbles from the material. The piston 29 is then actuated to discharge the material into a packet 160, the valve 59 being opened at the same time. While the bore 25, member 27 and piston 29 are shown as being cylindrical they may take any desired shape. Actuation of the moving parts is made through eccentrics from a common driving shaft as in Fig. 1 (not shown) and the stroke of the piston may be adjustable. The outlet 37 is also controlled to dip into the packet 160 and rise during discharge of the material.
