Obstetrical forceps have their jaws mounted for parallel movement, with a single central screw adjustment. A screw 16 has a head 15 retained on the jaw member 1 by a tongue 20 and a movable rod 23. This screw is made slidable in a bore 10 in the second jaw 2 but rotational movement therein is prevented by a peg 18 running in a guideway 19. Adjustment of the jaws is effected by a finger-nut 17 located in a slot 11 in the second jaw 2. Rapid dismantling of the jaws for cleaning is possible by sliding the pin 23 away from the head 15 and separating the screw from the jaw 1.
