Apparatus in which a liquid is contacted with a gas has a header pipe 14 with a plurality of nozzles 16 to spray the liquid, e.g. black liquor from paper mills, which is viseous relative to water through a gap in the walls of a venturi tube, a plate 24 being disposed alongside the nozzles to distribute a sheet-like spray across the venturi-tube. The header 14 may be secured to the venturi tube as shown by bolts 20 or it may be mounted directly therein. The plate 24 may project slightly into the gas stream. U.S.A. Specification 2,604,185 is referred to.
