Classes 65(1) and 65(2) A vehicle bonnet or the like is pivoted at 14 to the free end of an arm 12 which is pivoted at 13 to a bracket 10 and is coupled by toothed gear segments 15, 16 to a second arm 17 which is pivoted at 18 to the bracket 10 and is pivoted at 21 to a link 20 which is pivoted to the bonnet at 22. The pivots 14, 22 are formed on a plate 11, welded or otherwise secured to the rear underside of the bonnet. A tension spring 23 is connected between the pivots 21, 13 to assist in opening and holding open the bonnet. Other spring means may be used. In opening, the bonnet pivots upwardly about the rearmost pivot 14 which is simultaneously lifted upwardly and forwardly by the arm 12, the link 20 abutting a stop 24 in the fully open position. The gearing 15. 16 may have a ratio other than 1:1 as in Fig. 1. The gear segments 15. 16 may be elliptical.
