Improvements relating to fire-extinguishing installations

Class 47 [Also in Group XXIX] In a fire extinguishing system in which a battery of containers 11 supplies gas to one of two or more risks A, B through pipes 27 and nozzles 28, the gas passes through distributing valves 10 one of which is associated with each risk and is opened by gas released manually or automatically from a container 8, this gas subsequently operating a release mechanism of the container 11. Each valve 10 comprises a spindle 14 carrying pistons 12, 13 and an extension 16 carrying pistons 17, 18. When gas from a container 8 is supplied to an inlet 19 through a pipe 9, the spindle is raised to open the passage between inlet pipe 26 and outlet pipe 27, and to allow gas to pass from inlet 19 to outlet 20 and by pipe 23 to the release mechanism of the containers 11. As shown, Fig. 1, the container 8 is opened by a weight 4 controlled by fusible elements 5. In a modication, Fig. 3, the containers 8 are replaced by a single end container 41 of the battery 40 and opening of the container 41 is effected by one of a number of weights 43 which also opens a corresponding valve 45 to supply gas to the corresponding distributing valve 10. The pipe 64 through which gas passes to open the containers 40 includes a non-return valve 67 so that when gas is supplied in the direction X all the containers are opened, but when supplied in the direction Y only some of the containers are opened to meet the risk concerned.
