Photographic films, plates and papers having one or more layers of gelatino silver halide emulsion are provided with an outer layer consisting essentially of methylene-disalicylic acid coated over an emulsion layer. The outer layer may be applied from solution in an organic solvent, and in an example, plates are dipped in an acetone solution of methylene-disalicylic acid and allowed to dry.
