Zusammenfassung: | 742,458. Spraying-apparatus. UNION CARBIDE & CARBON CORPORATION. June 11, 1952, No. 17034/54. Divided out of 742,387. Class 69 (3). A detonation gun for spraying powder has an elongated barrel 16 communicating with supply conduits 10, 11 for fluid fuel, e.g. acetylene, and oxidizing gas, e.g. air, a chamber 14 having means, e.g. a sparking-plug 15, for igniting the acetylene/air mixture, and separate valves 35, 37 controlling the conduits 10, 11 operable in synchronism with the plug 15. Powder may be entrained in the acetylene or air, or introduced into the barrel 16 at a T-piece 28. A variable speed motor 26 drives a shaft 33 carrying a cam 27 for the valves 35, 37 and a spark timing cam 34. Also on the shaft 33 is a cam 32 for a valve 31 in an inert gas conduit 29, e.g. nitrogen. The sequence of operations is :-cam 27 opens valves 35, 37 to admit fuel and air ; cam 27 permits valves 35, 37 to shut ; cam 32 opens valve 31 to allow nitrogen to flow across valves 35, 37 to prevent flashback ; cam 34 closes circuit to fire the plug 15 ; after detonation nitrogen flows out behind combustion products and forms a protective zone ; finally, cam 32 allows valve 31 to shut. The barrel, which may be 1 inch diameter, and 3 to 6 feet long, may be water cooled. Fuels include hydrogen, butane, propane, pentane, ethylene or coal dust suspended in a gas, and oxygen may replace or be mixed with air. Specifications 742,387, 742,459 and 742,460, [both in Group XXII], are referred to. |
