In a horizontal cylinder type suction cleaner having a removable end cover 14 Fig. 4 incorporating a hose connector assembly, the latter is so mounted on the cover 14 that as the latter moves from the closed to open position and vice versa, the longitudinal axis of the assembly remains parallel to its initial position. The cover 14 is pivoted about a transverse axis 15 to the cleaner casing 10, and the assembly comprising a block 8 carrying a hose connector 19 is pivoted to the cover 14 about a transverse axis 20 and is guided during actuation of the cover by a parallel linkage formed by the cover 14 pivoted about the axis 15 and bell cranks 28 on each side of the block 18 and pivoted thereto about an axis 30. A spring 31 urges the cover 14 to its open position on depressing a knob 25 Fig. 4, to release a latch 21.
