A joint connecting two cables 1, 2 each having a thin lead sheath 4 surrounded by a thermo-plastic sheath 3, e.g. polythene, is made by passing a lead sleeve 5 over the joined insulated conductors, plumbing it to the two lead sheaths 4 and then clamping the ends of a sleeve 8 of organic elastic material round bushes 7 of a similar material, e.g. neoprene, provided round the ends of the thermo-plastic sheath, thus forming a watertight seal. Clamping may be effected by metal clips 9 tightened by nuts 12 or by a lapping of wire.
