Class 144(2) A hollow cushion tyre 1 has an annular reticular metal reinforcement such as expanded metal, embedded in the base of the tyre substantially co-axially with the rotational axis of the tyre. As shown a hollow cushion tyre for use with a divided-rim wheel has a closed base 1a with annular reinforcing expanded metal bands 2a, 2b one in each side thereof and each extending across onethird the base width with the slits 2c disposed circumferentially of the tyre. In an alternative construction a single annular band may extend across the whole width of the tyre base. To ensure good bonding with the rubber, the metal reinforcement may be surrounded by rubber of greater hardness than that comprising the remainder of the tyre base.
