Zusammenfassung:690,713. Drying threads. COURTAULDS, Ltd. Oct. 26, 1951 [Oct. 27, 1950], No. 26242/50. Class 34 (i) [Also in Group IX] A thread-storing and advancing reel comprises a cage of cantilever construction mounted for rotation on a hollow shaft 1, the cage being formed by two reel members 2, 3 each provided with a number of bars 9, 13 which interdigitate to form a substantially cylindrical thread-supporting surface within the cage, and means, e.g. a plate cam 14 acting through rollers 15 on the rods 10 of the bars 13 which are carried by the reel member 3 eccentrically of the reel member 2, causing relative movement of the bars 9, 13 during rotation of the reel to cause them to co-operate to advance in a number of generally helical turns thread 19 introduced into the cage by way of the hollow shaft 1. The reel member 2, which is attached to the shaft 1 at 4, 5 is driven by a gear 8 and in turn, drives the reel member 3 through pin and push connections 20, 21. The bars 13 are pivotally attached to the rods 10 which are carried on pivot spindles 11 and spring urged at 17. Hot-air may be blown into the cage or a heating coil may be placed around it for drying the thread therein. In a modification, the reel member 3 is replaced by a cylinder 22 (not shown) mounted eccentrically and askew with regard to the member 2 and the bars carried thereby are secured in pairs to retaining springs riveted to the cylinder. The Provisional Specification discloses a modification similar to that in Fig. 1 but bars 10 and the eccentric member 3 are not pivotally mounted. Specifications 489,781, 527,075, [Group IV], 608,078 611,919 and 616,276, [all in Group IV (a)], are referred to.
