A nutmeg &c. 32 is grated by the rotation of a plate 18 with rough slotted or upstanding edges while it is held against the under teeth 36 of a spring pressed cuplike plunger 24. The plate 18 is secured in a flanged ring 16 screwed on a flanged collar 13 rotatively mounted on the body 10 of the grater. Diametrical lugs 27 on the plunger 24 prevent its rotation and stops 29 of a spring half ring prevent it from slipping out. The various parts may be made of synthetic resin.
